CZ Autoz Helicopter supports three distinct systems that let players move freely inside a moving helicopter. Each works differently depending on the aircraft and who is using it.

Cabin Mode

Available on: UH-1H Iroquois, MH-60L Blackhawk, MH-47G Chinook Who can use it: Pilot and co-pilot only Helicopters like the UH-1H, Blackhawk and Chinook have exterior door exits — the standard “Get Out” action takes the pilot or co-pilot outside the aircraft. Cabin Mode is the dedicated workflow for cockpit crew to enter the cabin interior without leaving the helicopter.

How to Enter

  1. Be seated as pilot or co-pilot
  2. Look back to find the “Move to Cabin” action
  3. Activate it — your character leaves the cockpit seat and walks freely inside the helicopter’s cabin, moving with the aircraft in flight

Inside the Cabin

  • Full WASD movement — walk anywhere inside the helicopter, traveling with the aircraft in flight at any speed and any attitude — the cabin’s floor, wall and edge sensing tilts with the airframe (v0.2.9), so walking keeps working while the pilot maneuvers
  • You stay crouched while moving, for safe headroom inside the cabin — the MH-47G Chinook is the exception, and the only airframe in the mod whose cabin lets you walk fully upright
  • Weapon use — draw and fire weapons
  • ADS — aim down sights normally
  • Physical wall and edge boundaries prevent walking through the fuselage or stepping off the helicopter
Cabin Mode was fully reworked in v0.2.8 and is ON by default (features.cabinModeEnabled = 1), with further polish rounds in v0.2.9 and v0.3.0 — arrivals are reliable at any attitude and any framerate, a held hover reads as a rock-steady level deck from inside, the aircraft stays audible from the cabin, and the session self-recovers if the helicopter is destroyed or deleted under you. If you disabled it on our earlier (v0.2.3/v0.2.4) advice, turn it back on — config migration keeps your custom values, so an old 0 stays 0 until you change it.

Returning to the Cockpit

At any time, use the “Return to Cockpit” action to return to your seat. While you are in the cabin your cockpit seat is reserved (new in v0.2.2) — no other player can take it, so it is always free for your return. The pilot and co-pilot seats reserve independently, so both crew can be in the cabin at the same time and each keeps their own seat. The reservation clears automatically the moment you return, leave, or disconnect.

What Happens to the Helicopter

When the pilot uses Move to Cabin, they leave the controls — and since v0.2.9 the aircraft takes care of itself:
  • Autohover engages automatically on the way out (same rules and toggle as Auto Hover On Exit — featuresSimple/featuresAdvanced.autoHoverOnExit, on by default). The helicopter arrests to a stable hover and holds position while you walk the cabin, and the deck you walk on stays level.
  • With autoHoverOnExit disabled, the helicopter is left uncontrolled and will drift on whatever heading and collective it had — engage Autohover (X) manually before leaving the seat in that case.
  • On DayZ 1.29 only the pilot seat can fly, so a co-pilot entering the cabin never affects control — see the note below.

Server Configuration

Flying & the Co-Pilot Seat (DayZ 1.29)

On DayZ 1.29, only the pilot seat can fly — this is an engine-wide limitation that applies to every CarScript helicopter mod:
  • The pilot seat holds the flight controls, engine start/stop, Autohover and lights
  • The co-pilot seat is a full passenger seat with instant actions — and full access to Move to Cabin
  • “Transfer Controls” is currently disabled — the rebuilt handover (whoever holds control priority transfers it to the other cockpit seat) is in development and returns in a future update once it has been fully proven in multiplayer testing. Its T keybind is marked (DISABLED) in the controls menu until then
  • The HUD control indicator shows green when your seat has flight control (the pilot seat)
See the Controls Reference for the full key list.

Seat Exit Free Walk

Available on: AW101 Merlin (all seats), UH-1H, MH-60L Blackhawk and MH-47G Chinook (cabin passengers) Who can use it: Any player in a seat Seat Exit Free Walk uses the standard DayZ “Get Out” action. When a player exits a seat mid-flight, the DayZ engine automatically links them to the helicopter’s coordinate space — they travel with the aircraft and can walk freely inside. Getting back into any available seat mid-flight works normally. This is the primary interior system on the AW101 Merlin. Because the Merlin has a fully enclosed fuselage, “Get Out” from any seat — including pilot and co-pilot — places the player inside the aircraft rather than outside. They are immediately linked and free to walk the full interior. The rear ramp must be open to actually board or disembark — and since v0.3.0 boarding works the same way in reverse: the cockpit seats cannot be entered from outside the hull, so every crew member walks in through the ramp and takes their seat from inside. On the UH-1H, Blackhawk and Chinook, cabin passengers (not pilot or co-pilot) also get Seat Exit Free Walk via Get Out mid-flight. Unlike Cabin Mode there is no dedicated return action — players just board any available seat using the standard seat action. On the Chinook, all 25 cargo seats are boarded from inside the hold this way.
Seat Exit Free Walk is handled by the DayZ engine. It is not configurable through the mod’s JSON settings.

Walk-On Linking

Available on: UH-1H Iroquois, MH-60L Blackhawk, MH-6 Little Bird, AW101 Merlin, MH-47G Chinook Who can use it: Any player Players can link to a moving helicopter simply by walking onto the cabin deck or platform. The DayZ engine detects contact and automatically links them to the aircraft’s local space — they travel with it without taking any action. Stepping off the platform unlinks them.
Walk-on linking is handled by the DayZ engine directly. It is not configurable through the mod’s JSON settings.
