# Mi-24 Hind

> Four-seat gunship with a small troop cabin, built to its real-world size. The pilot flies from the raised rear cockpit, the gunner sits ahead in the nose, and every one of its five colours keeps the shark mouth.

The Mi-24 Hind is the tenth aircraft, added in **v0.4.6**. It is a gunship that also carries troops: the pilot and the gunner each have a cockpit of their own, and behind them is a small cabin with a bench for two, reached through a door on each side.

It is laid out the other way round to everything else here. The **pilot sits in the raised rear cockpit** and the **gunner sits ahead of and below him in the nose**, each under their own canopy.

## Specifications

| Property | Value |
| - | - |
| **Total seats** | 4 |
| **Cockpits** | 2 (pilot at the back and raised, gunner in the nose) |
| **Cabin** | 2 (one bench, back to back, one seat facing out of each side) |
| **Cabin Mode** | ✗ No — the cockpits are sealed off from the cabin, as on the real aircraft |
| **Walk about inside** | ✗ — the real-size cabin is too low to stand in or walk into |
| **Startup time** | \~34 seconds |
| **Mass** | 8,404 kg |
| **Top speed** | 335 km/h — the fastest helicopter in the pack |
| **Service ceiling** | 4,496 m |
| **Lift limit** | 2,400 kg on one hook |
| **Config files** | `CZ_Mi24Hind_Config.json` · `CZ_Mi24Hind_Desert_Config.json` · `CZ_Mi24Hind_Grey_Config.json` · `CZ_Mi24Hind_Winter_Config.json` · `CZ_Mi24Hind_Black_Config.json` |

Per-helicopter config files live in `$profile:\CZAutoz_Heli\HeliConfigs\`.

The weight, ceiling and lift limit are the real Hind's, and so is its size: the fuselage is 17.5 m long and the main rotor 17.3 m across.

## Variants

| Classname | Livery |
| - | - |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind` | Olive and sand camouflage |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Desert` | Desert — earth and sand |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Grey` | Grey — two-tone grey |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Winter` | Winter — grey patches on white |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Black` | Black |

**Every colour keeps the shark mouth** on the nose, along with the red stars, numbers and stencils. Only the camouflage changes between them.

## Getting in

* The **pilot** has a door on the **right-hand side** of the rear cockpit, hinged at its front edge like a car door
* The **gunner's** canopy is on the **right-hand side** of the nose and swings **up and over** to open
* The **cabin** has a door on **each side**, just ahead of the stub wings, in two halves — upper and lower. To take a bench seat, open the cabin door on that side, stand at the doorway outside the aircraft, and use the normal **Get In** while looking at the seat through the door. At real size the cabin is too low to walk into

Everyone gets out the way they got in. The pilot and gunner step out through their own door. A bench passenger steps out onto the ground outside the cabin door on their side — the seat facing out of the left side uses the left door, the right seat the right door — and that door has to be open, as with any door.

## The troop cabin

The Mi-24's cabin is built to real size — the real one is about 1.1 m tall — so it is **too low to walk into or stand up in**.

* **Passengers** board the two bench seats from outside: open the cabin door, stand in the doorway and use **Get In** while looking at the seat
* **Get Out** from a bench seat puts you on the ground outside the cabin door on your side. The door has to be open
* **In flight, Get Out from the bench means leaving the aircraft** through that door — and you fall. On the Mi-24 nobody gets out into the cabin
* The **pilot and gunner** can't move into the cabin: their cockpits are sealed off from it, as on the real aircraft. To change seats, get out and get in again

## Sling Loading

The Mi-24 lifts up to **2,400 kg** on **one hook** under the belly — the real Hind's limit. That is more than the UH-1H and less than the Black Hawk: enough for cars and light vehicles, not trucks.

* Its winch gear is **not part of the model** — the mod supplies the winch unit when a load is hooked, the same way it does for the other aircraft that have no gear modelled
* The weight limit is `sling.maxKg` in the helicopter's config file. A load over the limit gives you no hook-up action at all

## Landing gear

The Mi-24 sits on **three wheels** — one at the nose and two under the main undercarriage — and they **fold away** in flight. Raise and lower them with the landing gear action, which works the same way as on the [AW101 Merlin](/helicopters/aw101-merlin#landing-gear-that-folds-away). The Merlin, the Mi-24 and the two Ospreys are the four whose gear folds away.

## Door and wheel classnames

| Item classname | Description |
| - | - |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Pilot` | Pilot door (right side, rear cockpit) |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_CoPilot` | Gunner canopy (right side, nose) |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Cargo1` | Left cabin door, upper half |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Cargo1Lower` | Left cabin door, lower half |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Cargo2` | Right cabin door, upper half |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_Cargo2Lower` | Right cabin door, lower half |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_FrontWheel` | Nose wheel (×1) |
| `CZ_Mi24Hind_RearWheel` | Main wheels (×2) |

Door classnames differ per colour variant — add `_Desert`, `_Grey`, `_Winter` or `_Black` (for example `CZ_Mi24Hind_Pilot_Desert`, `CZ_Mi24Hind_Cargo2Lower_Winter`) — put these in your `types.xml` if you want helicopters to spawn with doors fitted, and use the variant that matches the helicopter or the door will be the wrong colour. The wheels are the same on every variant.

## Cargo

As well as its built-in storage of 500 slots, the Mi-24 takes up to **10 extra cargo modules**, the same as the rest. Set how many with `cargoModules.mi24.modules` and how big each one is with `cargoModules.mi24.cellsPerModule` in `mod_config.json`.
